Delhi is a city of Kings. It has seen the rise and fall of several kingdoms since the dawn of history. Most of the kings built one or other building here, according to the taste of each. Most of the buildings were built by the Mughal rulers. Among them we have the Red Fort, the Jama Masjid and the Humayun Tomb. The Red Fort is Situated near the banks of the Yamuna. It is made of Red Stone. It is known for its Diwan-e-aam and Diwan-e-khas. The prime Minister of India unfurls the National flag here every year on Independence Day(15th August). On the opposite side near the Jama masjid, the largest mosque in India. Both of these buildings were built by the Empror Shah Jahan.
An another historical buildings of Delhi is the Qutab Minar, which was started by Qutubdin Aibak in the 12th Century and was completed by Altmash, years after. It is the tallest building of Indai. It had seven storeys two of which have collapsed, probably due to lightening. Now only five storeys are left which have 378 steps. Now the Qutab Minar has been developed as a great tourist center and a picnic spot.
Among the other historical places of Delhi are Gurudwara sis Ganj in Chandni Chowk, Jantar Mantar , The Old Fort, The India Gate, The Birla Mandir, The Rashtrapati Bhavan(The President Hose), The Parliament House, Cannaught place etc.
Chandni Chowk is one of the most famous markets in Inida. Gurudwara Sis Ganj is situates in this bazaar. It was here tha Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur , known as " Hind-Ki-Chadar" was executed by the Emperor Aurangzeb. Birla Mandir is the holy place for the Hindus.
Among the famous historical places of Delhi are the Raj Ghat, The Shanti Van, The Vijay Ghat, The Shakti Sthal etc. The samadhis of Gandhiji, J.L Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indra Gandhi respectively are situates at these places.
Among these places the worth seeing in Delhi are also the vvast Zoological Park and the The National Science museum which have special attractions for children. In fact , History has made Delhi what it is and it makes history every moment. Every particle of Delhi has an historical significance in one or the other.
